Gothic Flapper Tutorial

So, yes, I admit, I have been MIA, from the YouTube seen, and frankly AWOL in the Blogger scene -- but I was never really good at that... Hopefully, that aspect has changed... Anywhoo (that'll be my new phrase), I did a photo shoot on Monday for a friend. She told me that she wanted makeup like the picture you can see above. So I have filmed a video of me experimenting to get this Gothic, flapper look.[Link will appear as soon as the video goes up]. Its a lot of experimentation, makeup remover and blending. Blending, blending, always blending.
Once the video goes up I shall have the steps and products I used to recreate this look found on Instagram. Halloween in coming and, really, who wants to be the conventional flapper anymore? LETS MAKE IT DARK, AnD MYSTERIOUS AnD SEXY.

* HUGE TREND: Ombre Lips. Get your how to here, when the video goes live!

Humanity in Print

HuamanityInPrint is my new web site  that will cover my book reviews more indepth. There will be analysis and quotations and videos I have made (or others that have impressed me) all on this website. It is a makeup-free zone devoted soleley to the books that I love and want to share with the world.

You can go there now and preview the site. Its all under construction. Gradually though I will get it up and running and eventually I will have a post up here to let you know when it is all spick and span and brand new to view :)

I hope this is a good idea, and I hope this inspires more people to read. It will also make way for more makeup review and freak-outs on this website!

My Meeting With Maggie Stiefvater!

Gah!! I met her! The author of the Shiver Trilogy, the Lament and Ballad books, the Scorpio Races and her new series The Raven Boys.
It was a wonderful Tuesday evening, I'd just finished my one and only class at 6:30pm and a friend of mine and I made our way to Chapters to meet this wonderful woman.
There was a panel first, short, where she told stories and answered a few questions. She never ceases to entertain people, she was laughing and making jokes all the way through.
Then came time for the auctioning of Gansey's shoe and a still from her Scorpio Races trailer. The still sold for $100.
The book signing line wound around the YA and pre-teen bookshelves but it was worth waiting an hour and a half to meet Maggie Stiefvater.
I don't know if you recall but in 2010 I made a makeup tutorial based on her book Shiver and sent it off to her channel as a video response... she accepted it and I've been proud of it ever since :) Its just one of those things that makes you want to go all out and celebrate.
THE VIDEO: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HMPKUARUyj4
Anyhoo, we were in line and I was talking, texting and tweeting, but for some reason I was not nervous, I couldn't figure out why... until I could see her face and the realization of our meeting became real. The closer we got the more I needed to pee... haha. I worked out a question to ask her with my friend and everything was going to be okay... until it was my turn to see her.
I walked up the two steps to her table and just put the book down and stared. "HI! Nice to meet you!" was the first thing I said.
She smiled and replied, "I like your earring, its very different." (its the one that's swinging in the picture).
"I like it too, I got it in Montreal last year."
Okay, what did I just say? Couldn't a thank you suffice?
She simply smiled and took my book and signed the inside page [ a link to my vlog of this day will be up sometime in the future].
The I started to ask my question, "DO you have any advice for..." And My brain stalled. I couldn't think of the rest of my question. She looked up at me expecting, waiting and I just struggled with my momentary lapse.
My friend whispered in my ear, the rest of my sentence, THANK GOD FOR HER PRESENCE, and I continued, "new authors who want to get published?"
And she went on telling me about two websites where I could find an agent and wrote the name down on my sticky note.
Then we took a picture and I tore myself away from her.
That was the end of that, my embarassing meeting with one of my favorite authors. HALLELUJAH.

Sally Hansen Crackle Overcoat

This stuff is really amazing. I bought this because I didn't want to spend all that money on OPI, so when this came out I whisked it off the shelf paying $5 for a bottle in the colour 08 Ink Splatter.
I out it on a few days ago and it felt very tacky. I thought Oh no, this is going to be awful. But, instead, the varnish settled down and began to dry --very quickly, might I add-- and left an awesome crackle pattern.
Unfortunately, stupidly, I put this overcoat on top of my Barry M Nail paint in 022 Navy so it even if I tried to take picture, which I did, you cannot see the cracks because I put the black on top of the navy blue :S
But I shall try again and you can keep watching in my videos to see what it looks like!!!

Its everything that I expected 5/5

I did not take this picture :P

Firelight by Sophie Jordan

Sophie Jordan, also known as Sharie Kohler, wrote this Mount Everest sized cliffhanger of a book. Firelight confused me, but not in the ways you may think. The plot line is is very secure and easy to understand. The characters, especially Will and Jacinda, are very well written. What confused me was the seriousness of the book. Reading the book in my head it seemed so intense, so filled with passion and fear, like something exciting lurked on every page. Then, I had it read a loud to me and it sounded silly. I think the fact that the sentences are so short makes it a hard book to read aloud-- among other things. Take this line for instance; is this supposed to be serious? : "I'm fighting with my locker again, the steel lock a cold kiss on my fingers. (It might just be me but I've never related my lock to feeing like it was kissing me...) Bodies bump and rush past me. (period)(Yup that's highschool for ya!) Strangely, my eyes burn. (period) (Bad allergies, Jacinda?) Tears want to spill. (period)(Oh, that's why her eyes were bruning. I was about to recommend Nasonex)Which is stupid. (period) Just because I can't get my locker open is no reason to wimp out. But it's more than that. (Period) I know that. (period) It's everything. (period)(Dun dun dun)" (Jordan 66). HAVE YOU EVER HEAD OF A SEMI-COLON SOPHIE JORDAN?! That, folks, was the entry to chapter seven and if I was a little more critical -- and not so in love with Will -- I would have chucked the book out of the window right there. It just seems so dry when you take it all apart. But like I said, In my head it sounded a lot better.

So, i am torn. If a sequal did come out, like the "end" of the book suggests, I might hesitate on purchacing it... (There is a sequal, its called Vanish-- Septeember 6 2011).

I give Firelight a big fat ?/5
